β›½ Articles to Fuel Lifelong Learning

Wise Words from Wise People (Oct 2025 Edition)

Every month I record the best quotes I find in books, articles, podcasts, etc. Here are the gems from this past month.

Thank You, Malcolm Gladwell

Gladwell is often criticized for his lack of academic rigor. But his ability to simplify helped me love reading again.

πŸ“š Books Worth Your Time

The Art of Spending Money by Morgan Housel

Nonfiction: Personal Finance, Psychology

This book is a great follow-up to Housel's earlier mega-bestseller The Psychology of Money. If you liked that one, you'll like this one. His first book focused on earning money. This one is focused on spending it.

How to Decide by Annie Duke

Nonfiction: Business, Decision-Making

Duke won millions in poker tournaments before becoming a business consultant. She unpacks how to avoid falling prey to common decision-making mistakes and psychological biases.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ’Ό Quick Leadership Takeaway

πŸ—£οΈ "Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs...
If you do little jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves."
-Dale Carnegie

Throughout the years, many employees have asked me how to get promoted. My answer is always the same:

The best way to earn your next job is to knock it out of the park in your current one.

I don't care if you're an accountant, office manager, grocery store cashier, or mid-level manager. If you want more opportunity, don't focus on your next role, focus on your current one.

Do a fantastic job with the little things. Execute small so people will trust you with gradually bigger things.

The majority of leadership is just showing up, acting with integrity, and executing consistently. Those are the traits of people who eventually get promoted.

πŸ€“ A Personal Tidbit

I'm getting excited...

I leave for my next solo retreat this week! I go on these retreats twice per year: once in the spring and once in the fall.

They're some of the events I look forward to most each year because I get the chance to spend several days reading, writing, journaling, hiking, soaking up nature, and getting to know myself better.

If you're curious to learn more, I've written about these trips in the past.

If you're interested in taking your own solo retreat, let me know if I can help with any questions. They've been so fulfilling for me that I'd love to see as many people as possible incorporate something similar into their life, regardless of what your version of it looks like.
