πŸ—£οΈ "I pride myself on making as few decisions as possible in a quarter... There are some times I can go a whole quarter without making any decisions." -Reed Hastings

How strong is your work culture?

Surprisingly, one of the best ways to answer that is to evaluate a different question: How quickly does your team make decisions?

In the strongest work cultures, people quickly know what to do in many situations because the core values and norms make it clear how to act.

Employees immediately know what to do when questions like these arise:

  • For this work trip, should I stay in a Motel 6 or the Ritz-Carlton?
  • Should I spend 5 hours or 5 weeks redesigning this webpage?
  • Should I make this decision on my own or pull in my boss?
  • Should I give feedback directly to that colleague or tell their boss?
  • Should I give a full refund to that client?

Strong cultures provide clarity, and clarity drives speed.

If your team/company isn't moving as fast as you want, don't point the finger at others. Reflect on what you can do to improve clarity.

πŸ€“ A Personal Tidbit

Today is the big day! I'll be cheering on my Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl this afternoon against the New England Patriots.

Two weeks ago, my wife and I had the chance to watch the NFC Championship Game with some of our close friends. The game started well for the Seahawks but got dicey at the end (as evidenced by my buddy Marty's praying posture in the pic below). πŸ˜‚

I'm nervous about today's game but cautiously optimistic!
